In selling your car, you must make sure it is in good shape to make a good price. The first thing to do would be to clean it properly both inside and out. If there are defects, repair them prior to the selling. If you do not make the necessary repairs and you have not divulged to the buyer such repairs, this can be considered illegal. You can also repaint your car if you want and add the cost to your asking price.

Get good pictures of your car. Take an image of both the interior and exterior. You should also take an image of the engine under the hood, inside the compartments, and at the back compartment.

It is also important to have a mechanic check your vehicle thoroughly. In paying the mechanic, get an official receipt or have him sign a document that he fixed your car. Show this document to your buyers so that they will know the car is in good shape. You should also expect that buyers will have their own mechanics to inspect your automobile.

In selling your car, make sure your asking price is reasonable and fair. If your price is too much, you may never sell your car at all. Make a research on the price of similar vehicles in websites, local newspapers and in car magazines. If you got your car through a financing scheme, settle all unpaid accounts or inform the financing institution of the new owner.

Be honest about your car. Do not say anything false about it just to make a sale. Always be truthful about your vehicle’s condition. In your ads, always describe your car realistically. Make sure also that you have with you the history and all the vital papers of your vehicle.

Allow your buyer to test-drive the car. But before this, your driver must present a driver’s license. Be with the buyer in his test-drive session. Inform your insurance company that you are no longer the owner of the automobile. Give them the contact details of the new owner.

In negotiating with the customers about the price, make sure you have the amount you want in mind so that you would be able to make a good negotiation for it. Always ask for cash as payment. Never go for personal checks. You can accept certified checks though. Ask your buyer to accompany you in the bank when you will cash the check. Release the car to your buyer once payment has been made.

If possible, have a signed contract between you and the buyer. You should also have the important documents with you such as the bill of sale, updated registration, and title among others. Make copies of such documents for safety purposes. In addition, inform your insurance company that the car is no longer yours so that you will not make any more payments. Your buyer may want to continue with the payments himself so do the proper endorsement of papers.

In selling your car, bear in mind these tips so that you will make a price that the buyer will find reasonable.
