If you have plans of selling your vehicle, here are a few tips on selling cars. Remember that you always make a bigger profit when you sell privately than going through a car dealer. A car dealer will always get a chunk of the profit you make when in fact all the proceeds you make should be yours.

The first thing to do when you sell your car is to clean it first. Wash the car properly inside and outside, vacuum and wax in the right places. If your car has small repairs to be made, fix them immediately so that your asking price will not be lowered down. Spray your vehicle with a car freshener so that your buyer will appreciate it even more. With a car that looks and smells good, you are sure to get a good price for it.

After cleaning your car, hire a mechanic to check the status of the brakes, pads, tires, driving wheel, water, oil and gas tanks, battery, and engine. Make sure there are no fluid leaks. When a mechanic has not checked your car, your buyers will ask you to lower their price. It is important to get an official receipt from your mechanic as proof that he has checked your car.

Make sure you also make a research on the price of used cars based on the brand. With this information, you would be able to come up with a good asking price. Remember that your customers will also have this information. After you have determined your price, make an ad on local dailies, websites that sell or auction used cars, community billboards, and even on the window and mirror of your car. Include your name, contact details, low mileage of your car, additional accessories you have included, condition and its history.

One of the tips on selling cars is to always have with you the title and registration documents of your car. Other important papers include bill of sale or a vehicle transform form, and a liability of form. These papers can be obtained from the DMV.

If your buyers ask you if they could test-drive your car, agree to this as long as they have a driver’s ticket and if you are there in the car with them. Your buyers may also have their own mechanic to inspect your car. Show the buyers your official receipt that you paid your mechanic.

When your buyer agrees to your selling price, ask him to pay in cash. Never agree to a monthly amortization plan or payment through personal checks. You can accept a certified check but when you cash it, ask your buyer to accompany you to the bank.

Accomplish the bill of sale immediately and sign it along with your buyer. Both of you should have a copy of this signed form as well as a copy of the signed title. Get a copy of the release of liability form from the DMV and fill it out. You are no longer entitled to pay insurance for it.

With these tips on selling cars, you are on your way to making a good sale.
