The group formerly known as "The Association of Settlement Companies" has changed its name to the "American Fair Credit Council" or AFCC. Along with its name change, the American Fair Credit Council has revamped its mission and mission as well.
According to the American Fair Credit Council’s official website, www.americanfaircreditcouncil.org, its main goals include the following: support consumers dealing with massive debt and credit problems, enforce industry "best practices", and to advocate for consumer-centric legislation at both the state and federal levels.
The council claims to be different from other credit card debt advocates by focusing on four core components: consumers, fairness, advocacy, and compliance. According to the website the council’s main focus is on the consumers who need their help. They fight for fair treatment of their customers by their creditors. They are an aggressive advocate. And they always adhere to their code of conduct.
The American Fair Credit Council was formed in April 2011. The main reason why it was formed as a replacement for the Association of Settlement Companies is because the latter did not fully represent the people in need of credit assistance. With its new name and visions however, the council is confident that it will be able to ease the suffering of good people currently involved in credit card debt.
Robby Birnbaum, the president of the American Fair Credit Council, says that the said council was formed to be an advocate for consumers in the fight for better treatment by the credit card companies. The main characteristics and principles of the new council include the following:
First is the adherence to Federal Trade Commission debt relief rules. This means that that the American Fair Trade Council shall only charge its clients after it has helped them successfully resolve or settle their credit card debt.
Second, a credit advocacy company can only be part of the American Fair Trade Council only after they agree to follow the council’s new code of conduct. In other words, the credit advocacy company must fully comply with the different rules and regulations of the Federal Trade Commission.
Third and last, the American Fair Trade Council should serve as a main source on the credit advocacy industry.
Proof of the American Fair Trade Council’s effectiveness as an advocate for people with massive credit card debt is that its member companies have collectively helped resolve approximately more than $2 billion in credit card debt.
Some of the council’s accredited members include "Achieve Financial Security", "American Debt Services", "DebtAmerica", "Professional Debt Relief, Inc.", Settlement Corporation of America", and a great variety of other companies all throughout the United States.
